Medications For Mental Health

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Looks like health insurance companies now have to provide mental health coverage by mandated law. Well, on one side that looks like that will resolve many issues but on the other hand, it might not do much because guess what? Prices are going to go up along with minimal benefits. So it looks like a moot point and maybe it was just a political ploy to pursue by the politicians.

Certain medications that you use might get you in trouble with the insurance companies, one of which may be Prozac. One suggestion if you use the medication because you have a medical condition associated to warrant using it, is to consider paying cash instead of swiping your insurance card. Sounds funny, however it can make a big difference in how insurance companies rate and price you in the long run.

Insurance companies now faced with the realization that they have to provide mental health coverage will not like that fact that they will have to insure some one with a condition being prescribed by these medications, so the simple solution might be to take into consideration some of the tips you have hopefully learned within the contents of this article and even if you do get accepted by a carrier, take a good look at the policy and check the provisions.

The fact is certain medications do not do well with health insurance companies and this applies to drugs like Prozac. You have to consider what would you rather do, pay more for the health insurance policy that covers the drug or just simply pay for it out of your own pocket. Consider your options before making a final determination and that will go along way in your pursuit of the right coverage.

Tips To Burn Fat Fast And Banish Stubborn Belly Fat

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Nobody can honestly say that losing weight is an easy job. To lose weight and keep it off, you have to be dedicated, motivated, and willing to do plenty of work. While it does take some effort to lose weight, don’t let this discourage you from getting started. Start out with baby steps and find a good fat burning diet to lose weight and reach your goals.

Losing weight permanently will take more than going on a crash diet. To lose weight and keep it off, you’ll have to make some changes to your entire lifestyle. The best place to start is with the foods you consume because this is one of the most important elements of a fat burning diet. Here is a plan that will help you burn fat fast and boost your weight loss efforts:

1. Avoid red meat. A positive change to any diet would include cutting back or eliminating the consumption of red meat. Not only does red meat cause many people to put on weight, but if can have a negative affect on your cholesterol level. To counter any cravings for red meat, work on training your taste buds to savor fish, seafood, and shellfish. Other good choices are the white meat from chicken or turkey. This advice doesn’t imply that you should stop eating meat, just read meat. Meat is an excellent source of protein and protein is needed when you want to burn fat fast.

2. Prepare food in a healthy way. Try different food preparation methods including roasting, broiling, boiling, baking, and grilling fish and meat rather than deep frying them. Avoid creamy sauces that are commonly served with main entrees. Instead, use low calorie condiments like a bit of barbecue sauce to make your main course taste interesting. Fish can be perfectly complemented with a lemon herb dressing. By starting a herb garden of your own or stocking your pantry with tasty herbs and spices, you can add flavor to your food without using excess salt or oil.

3. Use common sense when indulging in fast foods. When you have no other choice but to eat at a fast food restaurant, avoid “all you can eat” buffets and large servings. Eating like this too often will quickly add extra inches to your waistline. Regardless of whether you’re dining in a restaurant or at home, you can curb your hunger by starting with a salad or cup of soup. While waiting for the main course, this provides a feeling of fullness that will help you consume smaller portions. Of course, smaller portions are part of a fat burning diet or any other weight loss plan.

4. Start each meal with a soup or salad. When you choose soup, opt for vegetable soups rather than cream soups. The fiber that’s in the vegetables is nutritious and will help you feel fuller. When eating salads, choose low calorie dressings like vinaigrette. Again, the vegetables in the salad are full of nutrients and fiber which will help fill you up.

5. For dessert, choose fruits. If you crave a dessert after a meal, choose fresh fruits and avoid calorie laden sweets. You will benefit from the nutrients and fiber that fresh fruit contains, while satisfying your sweet tooth without too many calories.

These tips are just a few things that you can do to burn fat fast and start changing how you view food. Changing your perception of food is an important factor to long term weigh loss. With a fat burning diet, you taste buds will eventually get used to healthier food options and you will stay full longer. This can only help you burn fat fast and lose unwanted weight.

Do Insurance Companies Cover Lap Band Surgery?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

When you plan to have lap band surgery, one important factor you have to consider is how you are going to pay for the weight loss surgery. Insurance coverage for Lap Band surgery is normally granted or denied on an individual basis. For this reason, you have to be aware of your particular insurance providers policies.

When reviewing your insurance policy, you should look at the area in your policy that states: “What Is Covered” or “Covered Expenses.” These are the healthcare benefits that the insurance provider will cover. In this section, search for a statement that says the provider excludes coverage for “weight control, for the treatment of obesity, for the surgery for weight control, or for the complications of the surgery for weight control.” Some providers will state they exclude all forms of weight loss surgery while others will state certain areas that they will provide coverage. For instance, they may state they will cover “when deemed medically necessary.” The policy will likely state certain conditions that must be met. You need to find out about their exact conditions.

You should also check to see if you can get partial coverage. There may be a way to have some areas associated with the lap band process covered such as hospital fees.

The following is a list of insurance providers that either partially or completely cover Lap Band surgery:

Blue Cross (some states) United Healthcare Oxford Health Plan Medicaid American Family Insurance Humana First Health One Health Tufts Health Plan

One will require a Letter of Medical Necessity and a history of your weight loss attempts in order to be granted coverage for the surgery. The following information is usually included in the Letter of Medical Necessity:

A weight that should be 100 pounds or more above your ideal weight. List of medical problems associated with obesity, such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, etc. Number of years that you have been overweight (at least five or more) A detailed list of all your weight-loss attempts

Most insurance companies will rely on the National Institute of Health (NIH) guidelines to determine if a client should have weight loss surgery coverage. The NIH guidelines state that weight loss surgery may be an option for patients who “1) have failed with other weight loss treatments and 2) have a BMI of 40 or greater, or have a BMI of at least 35 and co-morbidities.”

If your insurance plan has an exclusion listed for weight loss surgery, you may still be able to get approval. You will have to appeal the exclusion and get a letter from your physician stating that lap band surgery is the best method of treatment for your life-threatening condition. Such health conditions can include: diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. You may possibly get approval for weight loss surgery as a treatment for one of these health conditions.

Lap band surgery is an expensive weight loss procedure. If obesity is a serious health risk, it is important to check with your insurance provider to see if you are covered.
