5 things to remember when buying Your Individual Health Insurance Plan

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Millions have lost their health insurance over the last several years due to lost jobs or lost benefits due to corporate cut backs. If your one of us then stuck with a scary situation, not only do you not have insurance you also have to find an Individual Health Insurance plan. I’m not sure which one is the most scariest.

Remember these 5 things and your search will less scary and much simpler

#1 Make sure your doctor or clinic is included in your health insurance plan. Most insurance plans include a network of doctors and clinics that they work with. If your family doctor is not included in their network there’s a really good chance that your have to either pay a higher co-pay(the amount you’d pay prior to your insurance kicks in usually around 20-50 dollars) or a higher coinsurance (the amount of the overall bill that you’ll be sharing paying with the insurance company. If you can’t find a plan that fits your needs and has your doctor you may need to find a new doctor.

#2 What Can I Afford? This is by far the most difficult to answer. You have factor in several things when deciding which health insurance plan is for you. How often do you and your family visit the doctor’s office? If it’s several times a month you’ll want to find a plan with a lower deductible, you’ll pay a higher monthly premium in exchange for a lower deductible. On the other hand if you only visit the doctor a couple times and year and your coverage is more to insure against something major, then you’ll most likely be better off with a higher deductible with a lower premium. You also need to look at how much you could afford if something catastrophic did occur. Many plans make you pay a percentage f the cost after your deductible has been covered. If you had a $50,000 claim how much of that could you afford to pay- $5,000, $10,000 or more? Like I said this is probably you most difficult to answer. Do your leg work and check with several insurance companies when choosing!!

#3 Are My Prescriptions Covered? Are you or someone in your family is currently on a prescription? If so you’ll want to ensure that the health insurance plan that you choose covers those cost. If not it could cost you more to purchase those than it would to go with a plan that has a higher monthly premium. So make sure that this on the top of your list of questions to ask when talking to your customer service representative.

#4 Are You Expecting to be Expecting? If so then you’ll want to find out if find a health insurance plan that will cover those expenses as well. Don’t get lazy when checking on this one. Many plans will say that they’ll cover maternity and prenatal expenses, but they don’t state how much coverage is included. Make sure you get enough coverage for your expected needs.

#5 Shop Around! Check out several companies prior to choosing your individual health insurance plan. I recommend using a broker, since they work with several insurance providers and can offer multiple options. There are plenty of on line brokers like ehealthinsurance.com that you can instantly get multiple quotes. Insuranceagents.com is another site I recommend, they take your information and local heath Insurance agents will call you.

Use these insurance sites to help you select your new Individual Health Insurance Plan. ehealthinsurance.com, and Insuranceagents.com.

Are you strapped for cash but desperate for Tooth Pain Relief?

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

In life you will experience certain pains that are worse than others. In my opinion, I think toothache and tooth pain are amongst the worse pain a human being can experience. Believe me when I say this – When you suffer from tooth pain you really suffer as there is little relief available . You can’t eat, drink, and even breathing can cause you the most sever sharp pain imaginable. The only thing you need in that moment of your life is tooth pain relief.

You may be asking what can you do when tooth pain strikes? You have two options. You can either try home remedies yourself or you can go and visit your dentist. There are pros and cons to both of these options which will now be analysed.

Within this article I want to explain my experiences to you and give you the pros and cons on both options. Hopefully you will then be able to judge what is right for your tooth pain relief. The first and instinctive reaction will be to contact the dentist for help and advice. This is what most people will do as they believe an expert, the dentist, will know straight away how to relief us from this pain and will do everything in their power to deal with this problem efficiently. However, this will be costly and is a dentist going to control the pain instead of curing the pain? Who knows? If I was a dentist I know that controlling the pain is more beneficial to my wallet. Dentists also have access to many prescription drugs that can be administer to you in order to take away some of the pain. As mentioned earlier though – visiting a dentist will result in booking appointments, time off work etc which can be very costly.

Home remedies are an option that is over looked sometimes through the lack of knowledge. They may seem like the last resort or wild card but home remedies have been around much longer than drugs and dentists and have worked effectively and efficiently for centuries.

If you are looking around for home remedies to relieve your tooth pain then you need to find items that have antibacterial agents. We don’t mean your kitchen cleaner, think about foods that you have. Items that can reduce the pain include garlic and rock salt. These can take a little time to be effective. There is a theory that if you chew raw garlic everyday it can strengthen your teeth. The same can be said for onion which has a number of antibacterial agents, the onion can be put directly on the tooth pain and you should feel relief almost instantly.

So, summing up; if you are a tad strapped for cash or you have a deep fear of the dentist, there are many home remedies available for tooth pain relief that could be waiting to help you find relief in your kitchen! With the prices that some dentists charge today, it isn’t hard to see why so many of us are looking towards home remedies.

How A Dentist will Treat Your Tooth Pain Relief

Friday, April 29th, 2011

The most painful pain I ever had was tooth pain and I’m sure you would agree. If I can find a solution to stop the pain and get tooth pain relief then I will do this prior to my dentist appointment.

That feeling of the tooth throbbing in my mouth moving from the tooth to my cheek and then up to my eye is the worst. It doesn’t seem to matter which side of the mouth that the tooth pain is on, that eye just pounds and pounds. It makes you feel like someone is hitting you in the head with a hammer. In Fact it makes me wish someone would hit me in the head with a hammer. Might take my mind off the tooth pain.

I sometime use gel orally when the tooth pain begins. It is easy and quick to apply and can reduce the pain almost immediately. However if I don’t have any gel I may take a pain killer and put this straight onto the painful tooth to let the pill dissolve directly on the pain. I really don’t like the dentist so may also try Hydrocodone. I have a phobia of needles and have come out of the dentist feeling like they have just done a quick job for a lot of money.

This brings me to the subject of dentists. Have you ever asked yourself why a dentist carries out his job in a certain manner? We all need our teeth so we can eat and chop our food up before we swallow, and we also need our teeth to look good for when we smile. Can you think of any other reasons?

Most people, in fact nearly everyone I know, recommend that as soon as tooth pain strikes you need to visit your dentist. As you enter the dentist the receptionist will ask you to complete the necessary forms which you will probably feel is a waste of time when all you want to do is stop your tooth pain. It makes you wonder how many trees were destroyed to make all this paperwork. Then you sit in anticipation and wait until it’s your turn.

You finally get into the dentist chair and the first thing he does is ex-ray your mouth. More waiting, Still in Pain. After about an hour or two he comes back into your room and tells you that pulling isn’t the best thing for you because he can put some silver in your mouth and patch the hole he needs to drill in your tooth to get the decay out. But first you need to go home and take some of these anti-biotics to get rid of the abscessed that has formed. On his way out he tells you to make another appointment in about a week so he can do the work that he suggests on the bad tooth you have.

To your amazement you get handed a large bill which will read something like this $50 office visit, $75 room bill and $100 ex-ray.

When you return for your second visit, the dentist will begin to carry out treatment on your tooth that he suggested on your first visit. To patch up the hole in the tooth he will place some silver in it. The only problem with this is that usually silver is not permanent and it is very likely that in several months from now, you will be sat in the exact same chair as the piece of silver has fallen out half way through your dinner. The upsetting thing here is that your dentist may blame you for the silver dropping out say that you have messed around with it too much, anyway in this scenario he may decide to pull the tooth out and issue you with another bill. This bill would never had happened if he had pulled the tooth out on the first visit.

Because dentists can only do a certain amount of work per day, they sometimes don’t always have your best interest at heart. Having your best interest at heart may not always be the most profitable so if they can, they may put off doing the correct work for you the get your tooth pain relief.

In conclusion, I feel that the patients interests, which is tooth pain relief is not always what the dentist looks for first. Why would they want to solve the pain for good by pulling the tooth out, when they can keep the tooth in creating more visits and more billing. This will create better income for them so it may be down to you to find your own tooth pain relief.

Discover Facts about Long Term Care

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Long-term care is when a person needs someone to care for them because they cannot manage a number of daily living activities on their own any longer and it is envisaged that this will happen for the foreseeable future. It comprises of help with daily living activities such as washing, dressing or eating and can take place in the home or in a residential or nursing care home.

Quiet often a stroke or heart attack happens without warning resulting in the need for immediate long term care. Other symptoms such as Alzheimer’s disease can develop more slowly requiring increasing levels of care.

How does a long term care insurance policy work? Basically this is a lump sum insurance plan that guarantees a regular payment to help pay for life care. The purchase price is progressively cheaper relative to adverse health and older age unlike life insurance which is progressively less costly due to younger age and better health.

When a person dies, the income stops and the care plan purchase price is non refundable unless there is some form of capital protection against early demise.

Long term care insurance plan premiums are calculated based on the individual’s life expectancy. this is forecast by reference to medical information provided by the person’s family doctor. Also insurance companies endeavour to speak to care home staff for an up to date hands on assessment. The cost of a care plan is less relative to correspondingly deteriorating health and frailty.

The amount of long term care insurance payments required is determined by the monthly cost of care less the person’s state pension, benefits and other income such as private pensions. The balance required to meet the care fees bill is the shortfall. It is this regular shortfall that can be paid for life by payment of a once only lump sum to an insurance company. It is possible to pay extra to make sure that the benefits increase each year in line with rising care costs.

When arranging the annuity, it is a good idea to ask the care provider about the history of price increases so that this can be taken into account when arranging the level of benefits required. Better still ask the care provider if they will agree to fixed annual fee increases at say 5% in return for direct increasing payments into their account.

Obviously, if the care costs rise above the cover of insurance bought there could be a further shortfall but, to all intents and purposes this is usually manageable from other savings, unless the level of care required has altered drastically. In this case, a further review of the situation should be done before parting with more funds. For example, the care needs may have escalated to the point of the person becoming eligible for free personal care known as ‘continuing care’.

long term care plans have a significant tax saving benefit in that there is no tax liabilty on the person in care when benefits are payable direct to a registered care provider.

Your Elderly Home Care Solutions at a Glance

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Elderly home care is pretty much a private issue and people struggle for the best quality of care for their retired parents. Home care organistations that rely on local government rates would potentially not be able to engage the right calibre of staff. Apart from rare horrific stories recited in the press, many complaints are about domiciliary care staff that work for very little as a result of no NVQ certificates and little experience. Other areas for concern may include communication issues with language problems, working a small amount of the scheduled time, consistently arriving late or turning up on the wrong day. Qualified, experienced and dependable home health care staff enjoy better rates of pay and this is mirrored in the home care service provider’s costs of top of the range personal home care.

Quality in elderly home is expensive, but ensures the individual well is looked after and gives peace of mind. But high quality home care often results in extended life expectancy and long term funding problems. When people live longer, their capital can run dry, particularly when savings returns are small and they have not sought any financial advice about paying for their private homecare. In this instance, the person requiring elderly home care may have little choice but turn to their local authority. They may then need to change to a homecare agency that charges less.

The capital and fiduciary areas of senior care go alongside with the quality of individuall home care and are very significant point for those funding their own care, because they have enough savings or raise capital by way of equity release on their own house. High quality care is a lifetime committment so it is important that ample funding is arranged. It is also important to plan up front for rising home care costs as a consquence of escalating needs, most often culminating in full time elderly nursing care at home or residential home nursing care.

When an individual’s savings surpass the local authority’s limits, they must arrange their own elderly home care. The expenses can be very substantial, as twenty four hour care usually starts at over 100 daily for full time home nursing care, far beyond local authority rates.

When a person’s savings are less than the current ceiling, local government will credit the home care bills, however local authority payment rates are frequently below quality home care provider’s fees. So when capital runs out, first class home care may not be achievable. But help is on hand as there are proven financial solutions that can help make sure your capital does not disappear. For instance a person’s home could be used to pay for their own elderly home care, so avoiding the need to sell up or move into residential care. Alternatively your savings could secure guaranteed lifetime care fees payments. This type of advice is available through specialist independent planning from equityCare.

Some doctors and hospitals have even gone as far as to create ghost patients. Often times this could be as simple as performing procedures that are not necessary.

Some of these types of fraud are very hard to prove. Unnecessary procedures, for instance, may be the hardest to prove. What one doctor considerers unnecessary another can argue is perfectly legitimate. Unless you have access to the doctor’s records and know exactly what his orders were then there may be know way of knowing if fraud was committed.

Health care fraud also occurs through medical identity theft. This occurs when a person uses another persons insurance to receive health care service. This may occur because the person is uninsured or simply doesn’t want to use their own insurance. This could even be so the person can receive narcotics without using their own name.

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Dental implant insurance is very rarely included within the insurance policy that is provided by a majority of employers. However, individuals still have the option to purchase such an insurance plan themselves. Usually, people who have no existing condition that demands this type of coverage will have an easier time to get one.

In the meantime , people with an existing need for dental implant insurance will often need to wait about 6 month before the coverage comes into effect. Though the price of this coverage might just burn a hole in your pocket, when you glance at the cost related to dental implants, you’ll see that buying this kind of insurance is clearly worthwhile.

With the countless suppliers in the market today, you are sure to get a provider that can suit your wishes and also meet your finance situation. Before going on further, for the advantage of the reader, we’re going to try to appreciate what implants are and the reason why they are required.

Dental implants are screws that are fixed to the bone under the surface of the gums. This screw is attached to a synthetic tooth. Aside from boosting ones’ self worth, implants help to stop and reduce bone degradation. When part of the gum is exposed, the bone under the gum becomes exposed and bone loss becomes close. So , it is important to replace the lost tooth with an implant. Fortunately, the soaring price of dental implants can now be covered by dental implant insurance.

Notwithstanding the undeniable fact that a few suppliers consider dental implants as plastic surgery – so they do not cover it; more and more suppliers are starting to understand that dental implants at times can be extremely critical to maintain good oral health. When trying to find dental implant insurance, it is for your benefit to take a look at suppliers which will cover a big share of the price of treatment.

Though they often will not cover the final cost that you sustain for dental implant procedures, you can still make heavy savings by not needing to bear the complete burden to pay for the dental implant. When researching about the dental insurance policies available, you should find out the sort of procedures the plan covers.

The worst thing that you could ever make in purchasing dental implant insurance is to actually purchase a plan that doesn’t cover a lot of treatments that you will require in the build up to the dental implant and also for post surgery treatment.Once you’ve researched the plans, shortlist a few providers that you would like to learn more from. Then, get them to explain everything in the policy – even the fine print details.

The Phenomenon Of Rising Health Care Costs

Friday, November 6th, 2009

The phenomenon of rising health care costs has been more and more in the news lately. It certainly is a matter of extreme interest to many people around the country these last several months, as has been amply demonstrated at a number of health care reform debates and legislator town halls. The concern over health care costs cuts across all socioeconomic and political affinity groups, too.

As a matter of interest, there are several reasons given as to why medical costs seem to be rising faster than inflation or other consumer indexes. For one, many people have come to expect the latest and greatest in medical technologies and other therapies which has caused a distortion in supply and a consequent rise in the cost of certain medical treatments and therapies.

Many experts who have studied health care administration and other facets of medicine believe that is possible to get control of rising health care costs through a few relatively simple legislative and policy changes. Most believe that some sort of lawsuit reform that can be implemented and that addresses suits brought against medical care providers could be a good first step.

Unfortunately, there are a number of constitutional questions about such a move, in addition to the fact that trial attorneys are very powerful contributors to various politicians and are themselves a very strong lobbying group. Another quick fix would be to allow health insurance companies to compete freely across the country without regard to state lines. Currently, the each state sets its own laws and rules for the regulation of health insurance.

And because each state regulates health insurance from a different perspective, it seems that unavoidable distortions in the market tend to occur and which have the effect of artificially depressing competition that could result in lower costs. For example, the cost of insurance in New York may be much higher than the cost of insurance in Wyoming. Allowing insurers to compete head-to-head seems to make a lot of sense.

Each of the states must also share in the blame, as legislators and others responsible for creating law have looked to forcing insurers to offer gold plated health insurance coverage regardless of the need for certain portions of such insurance policies by certain consumers. This tends to increase the cost of a health insurance policy across the whole group instead of where it belongs, which is on the individual purchaser of the insurance.

The phenomenon of rising healthcare costs shows no signs of going away anytime soon. For sure, it is becoming ever more crucial that some sort of reform of health care takes place sooner rather than later. Also for sure, there are a number of simple fixes that could result in appreciable drops in the cost of healthcare in both the short and long terms and which would gladden any family on a budget.
