In order for the government of Mexico to recognize the insurance as proof of financial responsibility it must be issued by a Mexican insurance company. Your United States policy is not considered valid by the Mexican government.

A single limit policy allows a greater percentage of the claim to be applied to property damage as would normally be the case in a Mexican claim.

The other difference seen in Mexican car insurance is the exclusion for Vandalism and Partial Theft. This means that for theft coverage to apply the entire car must be missing and not just parts of it, like the radio or tires. Vandalism is not covered, so that the broken windshield or the keyed car will be the owner’s responsibility.
